PSH Prayer Prompts October 2020

Pray for future direction, for unity & pastoral concerns.

New Housing

For contacts in the New Housing. This is a Penicuik churches Together project. An Autumn trail is being organised for half term which has the support of Mauricewood primary school. It is hoped that this will offer a contact with folks in new housing.

Forest Church

Peter is an enthusiast for being church outside as increasingly people find it hard to consider crossing the threshold of a church building.

Food, Facts, Friends

Relations are developing in this new space where the RBS used to be. Mark Wells the project leader is keen that the work helps transforms people’s lives.

Some of these projects could become Fresh Expressions.

What is a Fresh Expression of Church?

This is where a new Christian group is formed that expresses its life in a way appropriate to the context and interests of the members. The gospel comes to where people are rather than asking people to come to a church building. A new Christian community emerges as this group develops. Fresh Expressions can meet outside, in schools, in community centres etc. Through growing together in their context folks discover Jesus in their frame of reference.  The emphasis is upon growing discipleship rather than once a week attendance.

Kirk in Penicuik (KIP)

Unity by increasing integration

KIP is when St Mungo’s, PNK & PSH meet or act together -Joint worship services + new shared Facebook page, website & Youtube channel + any other shared ventures. Pray for the Holy Habits framework for missional discipleship that is being promoted through our monthly services.

The Presbytery Plan -Please pray for unity and shared vision as churches discuss integration and new models for mission & ministry in Penicuik.

Churches Together in Penicuik

Other community issues…

Open my eyes Lord, especially if they are half shut because I’m tired of looking Or half open because I fear to see too much Or blurred with tears because yesterday, today and tomorrow Are filled with the same pain Or contracted because I only look at what I want to see

Open my eyes Lord To gently scan the life I lead The home I have, the world I inhabit And so to find among the gremlins and the greyness Signs of your hope that I can hold fast to and be encouraged by In this Autumn season

Acts 17.28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being’

Isaiah 43.1-3

But now thus says the Lord,
    he who created you, O Jacob,
    he who formed you, O Israel:
Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
    I have called you by name, you are mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
    and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
    and the flame shall not consume you.
For I am the Lord your God,
    the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour.
